INDICATION

Sitaglu Met 50mg+850mg Tab is a fixed-dose combination of sitagliptin and metformin indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycaemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus inadequately controlled on metformin monotherapy or on both agents given separately.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

The combination provides dual-pathway glycaemic control: sitagliptin's DPP-4 inhibition enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion and suppresses glucagon, while metformin reduces hepatic glucose output and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity. The 850mg metformin dose is the standard twice-daily dose in most type 2 diabetes treatment protocols and is well tolerated when taken with meals.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      Adults: 1 tablet twice daily with morning and evening meals

•      Renal function must be assessed before starting and monitored regularly

•      Swallow whole with a full glass of water

•      Always follow the dosage and monitoring schedule prescribed by your doctor

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Nausea and diarrhoea (metformin-related; usually transient)

Same profile as Sitaglu Met 50mg+1000mg. Iodinated contrast media: stop metformin 48 hours before. Alcohol: avoid excessive intake. Cationic drugs reduce metformin renal elimination. Insulin and sulfonylureas: hypoglycemia risk. ACE inhibitors may enhance sitagliptin effect.
