INDICATION

Pasage 5mg Tablets contain rosuvastatin at a lower starting dose, indicated for patients initiating statin therapy for primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. The 5mg dose is recommended as the starting point for patients of Asian descent, elderly patients, those with mild renal impairment, and patients at risk of myopathy. MECHANISM OF ACTION

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

●     Take at the same time each day, with or without food

●     Swallow whole with water

●     Patients on concurrent medications that increase statin exposure should remain at the lowest effective dose

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

●     Headache

●     Myalgia and muscle tenderness

●     Abdominal pain and nausea

●     Constipation

Less common:

●     Rhabdomyolysis (rare at this dose but possible)

●     Elevated hepatic transaminases

●     New-onset diabetes with prolonged use

●     Proteinuria (usually transient)

NOT RECOMMENDED IN

●     Known hypersensitivity to rosuvastatin

●     Active liver disease or unexplained elevated liver enzymes

●     Pregnancy and breastfeeding

●     Concurrent cyclosporine use

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Cyclosporine is contraindicated. Gemfibrozil increases myopathy risk. Monitor INR with warfarin co-administration. Space antacids by 2 hours. Protease inhibitors may increase exposure.
