GENERIC: Dexamethasone + Moxifloxacin

MANUFACTURER: ATCO Lab Pharma

QUANTITY

5ml eye drops

INDICATION

Oxcin-D Drop is a combination ophthalmic solution containing a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic and a corticosteroid. It is indicated for steroid-responsive inflammatory conditions of the eye where bacterial infection or risk of infection exists. It is prescribed for post-operative inflammation after cataract or other ocular surgery, bacterial conjunctivitis with significant inflammation, blepharoconjunctivitis, and keratitis.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Moxifloxacin inhibits both DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, providing bactericidal activity against gram-positive and gram-negative organisms with reduced resistance potential. Dexamethasone suppresses inflammation by inhibiting phospholipase A2, reducing prostaglandin and leukotriene production, and stabilizing cellular membranes. The combination provides simultaneous infection control and inflammation suppression.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Instill 1 to 2 drops in the affected eye(s) every 4 to 6 hours

For severe post-surgical inflammation: instill every 2 hours initially, reducing frequency as the condition improves

Do not exceed 14 days of treatment without ophthalmologist review

Shake well if the formulation is a suspension

Wash hands before and after application

Space at least 5 minutes between other eye medications

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

Mild burning or stinging upon instillation

     Temporary blurred vision

     Eye redness

Less common:

Increased intraocular pressure with prolonged corticosteroid use

Posterior subcapsular cataract with extended therapy

     Secondary infection due to immunosuppression

     Corneal thinning with prolonged use

NOT RECOMMENDED IN

Viral eye infections including herpes simplex keratitis

     Fungal or mycobacterial eye infections

Known hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones, corticosteroids, or any component

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Concurrent use with other corticosteroid eye drops may increase IOP risk. Avoid topical products containing divalent cations near moxifloxacin application.

STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS

Store below 25 degrees Celsius. Protect from light. Do not freeze. Discard 4 weeks after opening. Keep out of reach of children.
