OPTICON -A EYE DROP ONLINE AT BEST PRICE IN PAKISTAN
GENERIC: Naphazoline HCl 0.025%
MANUFACTURER: Optimus Pharma
QUANTITY
15ml eye drops
INDICATION
Opticon-A Eye Drop is an ophthalmic decongestant and antiallergic preparation indicated for the temporary relief of eye redness, irritation, and discomfort due to minor eye irritants such as dust, smoke, pollen, and chlorinated water. Naphazoline is a sympathomimetic vasoconstrictor that rapidly reduces redness by constricting the superficial blood vessels of the conjunctiva. It is commonly used as a cosmetic eye whitener and for short-term relief of allergic eye symptoms.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Naphazoline is an alpha-adrenergic receptor agonist that stimulates alpha-1 receptors on the smooth muscle of conjunctival blood vessels. This stimulation causes vasoconstriction, reducing blood flow to the conjunctiva and rapidly diminishing the visible redness. The effect is primarily cosmetic and symptomatic. The onset of action is within 5 to 10 minutes, and the decongestant effect lasts approximately 2 to 4 hours.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
● Instill 1 to 2 drops in the affected eye(s) up to 4 times daily as needed for redness
● Do not use for more than 3 consecutive days to avoid rebound redness (congestion)
● Remove contact lenses before instillation and wait 15 minutes before reinserting
● Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface
● Use the minimum effective dose and frequency
SIDE EFFECTS
Common:
● Temporary stinging or burning upon instillation
● Pupil dilation (mydriasis)
● Temporary blurred vision
● Rebound redness (rebound congestion) with overuse beyond 3 days
Less common:
● Elevated intraocular pressure, particularly in patients predisposed to glaucoma
● Systemic effects including headache, dizziness, increased blood pressure, and tachycardia if absorbed systemically
● Allergic reactions including eyelid swelling
NOT RECOMMENDED IN
● Narrow-angle glaucoma or predisposition to angle-closure
● Known hypersensitivity to naphazoline or any component
● Children under 6 years without physician guidance
● Concurrent use with MAO inhibitors, as systemic absorption may cause hypertensive crisis
● Continuous use beyond 3 days due to rebound redness risk
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Concurrent use with MAO inhibitors is contraindicated due to risk of severe hypertension. Tricyclic antidepressants may potentiate the pressor effects of naphazoline. Concurrent use with other ophthalmic vasoconstrictors increases the risk of rebound effects. Beta-blockers may be antagonized by systemic absorption of naphazoline.
STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
Store below 25 degrees Celsius. Protect from light. Do not freeze. Keep tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children.
